Abstract

The article discusses a process for designing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) to help special needs students. General education teachers, it is noted, sometimes have difficulty implementing inclusive education that brings special education students into the general education classroom. The IEP can help general education teachers to better plan for and include special education students into classroom activities. The seven steps of creating a plan for educational intervention include identifying the students' skills, choose a learning strategy, collect data, and assess the plan. In several of these steps it is noted that families can participate in developing the IEP plan.
