Abstract

Edutainment is a field in which AR is being applied. Edutainment point out the connections and the positive correlations between the educational field and the entertainment one. In this chapter, several edutainment applications are introduced and an AR application for learning the interior of the human body is presented. For the visualization, a HMD and a monitor were used. For the interaction, two physical zips and the keyboardwere also used.We have performed a study with 36 children in which we have considered the introduction using an avatar or a video, and aspects related to the application itself. From the introduction using AR and an avatar or a video, children did not found differences between the two types of introduction for several aspects. However, the children considered funniest the introduction using the avatar, and 86.11% of children liked themost the introduction using the avatar. From the results with the game using a HMD+zips or aMonitor+keyboard, none of the statistical analyses except one (related to easiness of selection) showed significant differences between the two systems. However, 86.11% of children liked the most the HMD+zips system. The children considered that the selection using the keyboard was easier. 91.67% of children preferred to be asked instead of reading the questions.Related to the perception of learning, 97.22% of children considered they have learnt using the games.
