The presence of nuclear objects in an urban environment, next to homes, always creates stress. The presence of the Russian Science Center Kurchatov Institute in Moscow confirms this. In this article, an attempt is made to show by a computational-analytical method the origin of this hazard, and the real radiation levels, additional to the natural background radiation, from the temporary storage sites are presented. It is shown that under the present conditions the contents of the temporary storage sites do not present any danger to the people living nearby. © 2005 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
