Abstract

Trace metal speciation, i.e., determination of individual concentrations of various physicochemical forms of a trace metal, is becoming increasingly important in the analysis of fresh waters. This paper concisely describes the present status and future prospects of this field, particular emphasis being laid on separation and concentration techniques. In the author's laboratory, centrifugation, flotation and sorption have been successfully applied to trace metal speciation as separation and concentration techniques for suspended particulate matter, inorganic colloids and humic substances. © 1987 IUPAC
