Abstract

Big data and open data promise tremendous advances. But the media hype ignores the difficulties and the risks associated with this promise. Beginning with the observation that people want answers to questions, not simply data, I explore some of the difficulties and risks which lie in the path of realising the opportunities. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
