Abstract

This paper deals with boundary value problems involving the deformation of hollow cylinders which are continuously reinforced throughout by two families of helically wound fibers. This type of cross-ply reinforcement can be realized fairly easily in practice by winding on a drum consecutively in opposing directions, and is sometimes termed balanced angle-ply. It has practical applications in the construction of pressure vessels, pipes, shafts and axles.
