Abstract

In this study we aim at identifying the reason for the presence of the psychologist-educator in schools and what role he or she plays at school. We also investigate the implications that his or her presence brings for the teaching-learning process. For this purpose, we interviewed ten teacher-psychologists, belonging to Five schools located in the state of Paraná. The results showed that the position of psychologist-teachr was occupied by teachers who had the title of specialist in Educational Psychology. They began offering psychopedagogical assessments of students with learning difficulties. According to the most of these professionals, one of or her/his functions is to help the teacher in a classroom which has students with learning difficulties and try to understand why these students are not learning, and above all, help them reverse this problem. We conclude that the performance of this professional in schools has contributed little to solving the problems in the educational process. The problem is that they focus on the individual and not in the teaching-learning process.
