This scintillating collection of essays investigates artistic exchange and cultural translation in Italian Renaissance cities. Although its contributions are not innovative in their approaches, they are exceedingly interesting, stimulating, informative, and scholarly without being tedious. Its three parts explore the intellectual interaction between patrons and artists and the dissemination of models through copies, regional identities and their encounters with Florence, and the cultural other. The volume is splendid.
