A stochastic model for a software failure phenomenon based on a non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP) was suggested by Goel and Okumoto (G-O). Later Hossain and Dahiya (H/D G-O model) modified the model. We suggest a further modification of it. Several quantitative measures for software performance are developed, ML equations are investigated and a sufficient condition for the MLE to be finite is given. The results of the model are applied to real software failure data and compared with G-O and Yamada et al models.
