Abstract

The principle of operation of pneumatic valve positioners has not changed since the 1940's although many refinements have taken place to improve their performance. Changes have recently been made in the materials used to combat the effects of a saline atmosphere when used in offshore North Sea oil developments. The applications of valve positioners were listed and the range of valve positioners available from eleven different manufacturers were reviewed.
