Abstract

The article discusses technological innovations and reduced machinery costs in 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, as of June 2012. Topics include the process of making three-dimensional objects from digital files; the use of 3D printers to produce spare parts, clothing, and prosthetic limbs; and five business advantages to 3D printing according to Dr. Phil Reeves, managing director at the global 3D printing consultancy Econolyst.
