Posttransplantation lymphoproliferative disorder

Abstract

Transplantation in children leads to various ocular impairment in 16 % of patients after 1 year, and posttransplantation lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a serious complication after solid organ transplantation. The lymphoproliferation is found rarely in the eye, and the ocular involvement was first described in 1991 by Brodsky et al. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) seems to play a major role in induction of the proliferative process and subsequent development of lymphoma. The incidence of PTLD is approx 2–3 %. The highest incidence is seen in the first year after transplantation.
