Abstract

With the advancement in technology, the number of attacks taking place on a user’s identity is increasing. Thus, there is a need for an increase in the security of the user’s identity. Authentication of a user is the most important element of security. In this paper, we have proposed a novel method for user authentication. This method is a challenge–response-based user authentication technique that will provide a higher level of security than conventional text-based passwords. In this method, the password entered at the time of authentication will be different for each session, even when the actual user password is same. Thus, it is a pseudo-dynamic scheme of password generation. In this paper, we have also analyzed the factors on which the password computation time depends. We have also analyzed its susceptibility to the various attacks that are common on the text-based passwords.
