The mobilizations against the so-called "gender ideology" that took place in Ecuador have involved marches and sit-ins organized by civil society. However, behind these citizen mobilizations are movements supported by the Catholic Church, which have used a discourse based on doctrinal elements to demand the abolition of laws with a gender perspective and the state promotion of sexual and reproductive rights. This article analyzes the way spaces considered spiritual and religious allow the politicization of their faithful to prevent the promotion of women's rights and sexual diversity.
