Abstract

Neuromodulation has been used for activation of the nervous system to cause pain relief for more than a half century. Mathematical modelling is being used gain better understanding of the neuromodulatory methods and to facilitate electrode design. Here the well-known method of spinal cord stimulation and the more resent method of peripheral nerve field stimulation will be discussed in relation to relief of low-back pain.
