Abstract

Breast feeding, an integral part of woman reproductive life cycle, a natural physiological process, often becomes a cause of anxiety and worry for the mother. She needs proper guidance and support during this unique phase of her life. Successful breast feeding in a woman can be accomplished by collected effort from the treating obstetrician, nurse, paediatrician and the woman herself. Proper counselling in the antenatal period creates a positive environment for exclusive beast feeding. Establishing early contact in the immediate neonatal period and putting the baby to breast within the first of life is crucial. Obstetricians have a major role to play in promotion of breast feeding as they are the first contact persons in case of problems. The approach of Obstetricians and their office and clinic staff have an enormous influence on the mothers
