Total knee arthroplasty is an extremely successful procedure with excellent durability and outcomes. However, many patients remain unsatisfied after surgery. Changes in expectations and altering the biomechanics of the native knee joint by sacrificing the anterior cruciate ligament may play a role. Bicruciate-retaining total knee arthroplasty aims to solve these issues by maintaining native knee kinematics. The orthopaedic surgeon should be knowledgeable about history, design, indications, contraindications, and concerns related to treatment.
