Today, social media is widely common and increasingly popular medium among young people. If any of social media that enables people to display their personal interests on personal pages, communicate with each other through various applications, obtain information, make friendships, share photos and images with other people, and provide data to people about personal information, is used extremely and unconsciously, it can be addictive. There are many factors associated with social media addiction as a type of behavioral addiction. In this study, the relationship between social media addiction and depression is examined. A field survey method is used in the study and the data is obtained from 303 face to face interviews with some university students. As a result of the research, it is found that there is a positive correlation between social media dependence and depression. The ones who have severe depression symptoms; have higher social media addiction scores than those with normal and mild depression. Depression, duration and frequency of using social media are defined as the determinants of social media dependence. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
