Abstract

In everyday practice, in epidemiological and clinical examinations, anthropometric methods are used to evaluate the degree of obesity. The BMI (Body Mass Index) is the most frequently used calculation, whereas the WHR (waist/hip ratio) index, evaluating the distribution of fatty tissue or measurement of the waist circumference, constitutes the criterion for the diagnosis of abdominal obesity. According to WHO data, obesity and its aftereffects contribute to more than 2.5 million deaths annually [1-10].
