Partially reduced graphite oxide (GOpr) with a layer spacing of 4.3 Å was investigated in lithium containing organic electrolyte of 1M LiClO4 in acetonitrile or propylene carbonate. Lithium ion storage was observed in both electrolytes; however, a nice rectangular capacitive CV was only obtained in acetonitrile based (AN) electrolyte. In 1M LiClO4 / AN a specific capacitance of 302 F/g was achieved. This rather high capacitance is most likely due to pseudocapacitive contributions originating from the interaction of Li+ with the oxygen containing surface groups of the GOpr. © 2012 The Electrochemical Society.
