Abstract

The Nile is a vital resource of north-eastern Africa. After a description of its basin, and its hydrology, the different phases in the process of man gaining control on the river are discussed. Presently, the Nile is used for irrigation, the generation of hydroelectric power, navigation, and, of particular importance to limnologists, fisheries. Future developments in the management of the Nile are summarized. © 1984 Dr W. Junk Publishers.
