Outer Space is becoming more important than ever not only as an operational domain, but also because of its intrinsic vulnerabilities. NATO does not seek direct confrontation in Outer Space, but rather to ensure access to the space capabilities, which are necessary to fulfil with the mandate entrusted by its Member States. To this end, both the promotion of interoperability and the Alliance's legal architecture will be essential. Artificial Intelligence poses a major challenge within the framework of international relations not only because of the potential asymmetry between states, but also because of the risk of impunity and lack of attribution for possible "autonomous" behaviours that may be detrimental to both objects and people.
