Systems where software and hardware elements need to be designed, deployed, and sustained in orchestration are no longer limited to manufacturing systems such as smart grids, autonomous vehicles, medical monitoring, industrial control, robotics, or avionics. In these systems, the boundaries of software, hardware, and data become hard to isolate and control. Digital twins provide a solution to managing smart manufacturing lifecycles in such systems as well as their operation and maintenance.
