Abstract

Parallels exist between the Industrial Revolution and our current computing revolution regarding risk, transparency, and responsibility. This article examines some of these parallels, the implications for society, and the individual developer's responsibility. The Web extra at http://youtu.be/9qfm9DDzLCc is an audio podcast of author Grady Booch reading his On Computing column, in which he discusses how parallels exist between the Industrial Revolution and our current computing revolution regarding risk, transparency, and responsibility. Grady then examines some of these parallels, their implications for society, and individual developer's responsibilities.
