Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the lessons learned from successful and high performing K-12 school reforms and apply them to system wide reforms to the California Community College system. Under-performing K-12 school systems are putting increasing pressure on the nation's community colleges especially in the area of developmental education in numeracy and literacy. The community college acts as a bridge between high school and employment as well as providing an alternative path to a four-year university education.
