Abstract

This perennial bush or shrub is indigenous to India, East Africa, southeastern Mediterranean Basin and other tropical regions. Hindu physicians used this plant medicinally from an early period, and the Arab and Persian physicians learnt about it through them. Muslim physicians described two varieties of the plant, red and white; the red is said to be most active.
