Abstract

This present work aims at synthesizing a novel tetrazole from phenothiazine. Phenothiazine is converted into a nitrile by reacting it with 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, sodium metabisulphite and sodium cyanide. The nitrile on treatment with NaN3/DMF yielded the corresponding tetrazole. The tetrazole obtained was characterized by IR, 1H NMR, EI-MS and elemental analysis. © 2009 by the authors.
