Abstract

Many group conflicts are strongly influenced by ideologies. Political deliberation and discourse are shaped by ideologies such as liberalism, conservatism, communism, fascism, anarchism, environmentalism, and feminism. Each of these is a system of interconnected concepts, beliefs, goals, and attitudes. The aim of this chapter is to explain how such systems operate by drawing on current theories of cognition and emotion. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2015 APA, all rights reserved). (chapter)
