Abstract

Wireless communication has created a continuing demand for increased bandwidth and better quality of services. Smart antenna systems are one of the ways to accommodate this demand which can provide numerous benefits to service provider and the customer. Therefore, this paper present a planar design, simulation and implementation of a smart antenna system for wireless networks using microstrip antenna array with beamforming network. An 4 × 4 Butler matrix is designed as a feeding network to excite the patch antenna array. Owning to the linear phase distribution induced by the Butler matrix, the antenna array can generate different beams in desired direction.
