Abstract

The metabolic differences resulting from the differences in feeding habits of cats (obligate carnivore) and dogs (omnivore) are discussed. Differences in protein and amino acid metabolism, particularly arginine and taurine, and metabolism of retinol, niacin and essential fatty acids are focussed on.
