Abstract

i The subfamily Panopinae in Australia is revised, the historical aspect of early collections discussed and certain taxonomic changes proposed. Four genera and ten species are recognized, of which the genus Mesophysa Macquart is revived and one genus, Panocalda, and five species, Panocalda grossi, Panops austrae, Mesophysa ilzei, M. tenaria and M. ultima, are described as new. Neotypes are selected for two species, Panops baudini Lamarck and Panops flavipes Latreille, of which the types have been lost. Panops flavipes var. burnsi Paramonov is raised to species status and transferred to Leucopsina Westwood. Copyright © 1971, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
