We discuss the existence of positive solutions for a fourth-order differential equation subject to nonlinear and nonlocal boundary conditions, which models a sliding bar. Our approach allows the involved nonlinearity to be singular. Our main ingredient is the theory of fixed-point index. © Springer Science+Business Media New York 2013.
