Abstract

(from the chapter) Addresses issues of worker acceptance of occupational safety and health regimens. The approach to be taken will be to first analyze and examine impediments to workers behaving safely-i.e., adopting and complying with safe, healthful workplace practices-and then to identify strategies for overcoming these obstacles. The treatment throughout is organized around 3 general factors identified by the National Institute of Mental Health workshop as being critical behavioral determinants: (1) ability factors, (2) intentional and motivational factors, and (3) environmental factors.
