In the reported investigation, E. coli having aspartase activity and P. putida having arginine deiminase activity were immobilized by entrapping in acrylamide gel. These immobilized microbial cells can be applied advantageously to the industrial production of L-aspartic acid and L-citrulline. Continuous enzyme reactions employing immobilized microbial cells appear to be most advantageous when enzymes extracted from microbial cells are unstable and when enzymes are unstable during and after immobilization. Details of described techniques are given.
