Congenital soft tissue abnormalities of the orbital and periocular region are among the most challenging problems encountered by the reconstructive surgeon. They can occur either as an isolated anomaly or as part of complex systemic syndromes. Many of them can represent both a potential threat to vision at an early age and a significant cosmetic blemish later in life. Close monitoring of the visual development in many of these anomalies is also essential because of amblyopia.
