Abstract

Labanotation is a two-dimensional graphic notational system for recording movement of the human body. One of the major applications of Labanotation has been the recording of both classical ballet and modern dance. We are developing a program to compile labanotation scores into movement primitives which will be used to generate a graphic simulation of human movement. We are also building a user-oriented graphics editor as a front end to this system. This entails the design of a data structure which would provide a neat efficient method to store a score (for an editor) and which would also, in essence, be a lexical scan of the score (for the compiler).
