Abstract

The initial sketch for rudder horn steel castings in super-large oil tanker has been designed based on the technological experiences, which was conducted 3D moulding by the Solidwork software to get the STL document for Huazhu CAE. The temperature field in the steel castings during solidification process was simulated by the Huazhu CAE system to predict the potential shrinkage porosity (hole) defects. Based on above simulated results, the casting sketch was optimized. The results show that sequential solidification can be realized by rationally setting riser, chill iron and gating system, and the qualified rudder horn casting steel castings has been produced successfully.
