Purification of Special Types of Proteins

Abstract

In the first edition of this book, the concept of expressing proteins in recombinant form was only just being realized; there were few examples and no general technology to describe. Ten years later, purification of proteins from transformed recombinant host cells has become almost as common as purification from the natural source. The whole process can be divided in two: the molecular biology of gene isolation and expression, and the purification from the recombinant cells. But the latter can be strongly influenced by the former; indeed, the form in which the protein is expressed can include the means of purification, so that the task of protein purification becomes relatively trivial.
