Since invented in 1960s, carbon fibers have been widely used in sporting goods, aerospace, automotive, and civil engineering. A mechanical property of carbon fiber is determined by the raw material and production conditions. This paper briefly explains kinds of carbon fiber and these production methods, historical developments of its mechanical properties, commercialization, and CFRP applications.
