Abstract

Blood is a quite peculiar juice. Thus spoke Mephistopheles in the tragedy ``Faust'' by J.W. von Goethe. Glass, too, is a quite peculiar juice: There was a stone age, an iron age, and a bronze age. Glass, however, is the only artificial material that has been in use uninterruptedly for seven millennia or more without giving its name to an epoch.
