Abstract

In recent years, due to its full custom character, FPGA has been recognized as an approach to raise performance with limited power consumption. For WSN application, another important metric of FPGA is remote and dynamic configurability. During the whole life-time of system, it is important that each node can be reconfigured as the new functionality may be needed. To facilitate this function, FPGA based WSN node need to be explored. In this paper, FPGA based WSN node is prototyped. Also, the power and area data of node are collected and presented. Finally, the trade-off of FPGA implementation is studied. It is concluded that area and static power can be saved using FPGA based WSN node. © Springer-Verlag 2012.
