Abstract

This paper investigates the possibility that ultra-long waves may be involved in the coupling process between active areas on the Sun and weather changes within the troposphere. The most likely coupling link in this respect is enhanced electro-magnetic radiation from active longitudes on the Sun which penetrates at least down to stratospheric altitudes. The expected heat input and planetary wave structures and magnitudes are estimated for various time scales, in particular for waves with periods of 27 days. -Author
