SRI TECHNIQUE FOR FLOOD FREQUENCY ANALYSIS.

Abstract

This paper presents a technique for flood flow frequency analysis called the Storm Response Index (SRI), and a case study using the technique. The SRI method is based on the development of a long term synthetic rainfall record and detailed simulation of selected events from this record with a rainfall-runoff model. It is useful when basin response has been affected by urbanization, when runoff records are not available, and when potential benefits from an accurate flood frequency determination are high. The case study presents results from a study of the highly urbanized Mystic River Basin near Boston, Massachusetts, where the SRI method was applied.
