Abstract

The replacement of the special subject collection system by the scientific information services programme constitutes a paradigm shift from infrastructural funding to project-based funding. The system of the nationwide provision with literature will no longer be sustainable; the long-term reliability will be lost. To an increasing extent, gaps will appear in the supraregional infrastructure of literature holdings, causing a fragmentation of the distributed German national library.
