The chapters of this volume are revised and enlarged versions of papers originally presented at the second meeting of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism, Calgary, 1991. The book brings together a panel of experts who tackle a wide range of areas from policy to consumer psychology. The latest theoretical developments, models and variables are tested both to establish a foundation for tourism research and to take a challenging look at the future of the discipline as a whole. The volume asks how far research has been based on a solid framework of concepts and methodologies and assesses the various issues involved when undertaking research, whether from a sociological, geographic, cultural or management perspective. Other sections include a study of touristic images of native people, tourist motivation and tourism in rural areas. -after Editors
