This article aims to conduct a systematic review of studies on teaching of Spanish as a foreign Language (ele) for the specific purpose of foreign trade in Vocational and Applied Education in China between 2000 and 2019. A search in the two most well-known and used bibliographic bases in China (China National Knowledge Infrastructure -cnki- and wanfang data) allows to identify the thematic areas on study so far: ele curricular development; the role of foreign languages in the training of professionals in foreign trade; and ac-tivities and strategies for teaching. There is still a very recent interest (especially since 2009) in this field of study. The results draw an overview of the emergence of different challenges, including the study of communication and learning needs of ele for different professional performances.
