Surgical textbooks devote a great deal of space to clinical examination of the patient with varicose veins. Many of the clinical tests were described 100 years ago and carry the names of famous individuals interested in venous pathophysiology. Among these are the Trendelenburg test, the Schwartz test, the Perthes test, and the Mahorner and Ochsner modification of the Trendelenburg test.1 © 2007 Springer-Verlag London Limited.
