Abstract

The first results of trials with an electrified Dutch beam trawl for shrimp (Crangon crangon L.) fishing are reported. An electrified beam trawl catches about 116% more commercial sized shrimp and 81% more undersized shrimp. By using this type of gear it is hoped that the destruction of immature fish, especially flatfish, by the shrimp fishing fleet will be reduced. © 1974 Conseil International pour l’Exploration de la Mer.
