Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a method of separating the effects of qualitative factors, or classifications, on some observed variable of interest. This article explains analysis of variance, and includes examples of one-way, two-way and three-way ANOVA. At the end, there is a brief discussion of the log-normal probability distribution. This powerful technique determines how much of an observed variation can be attributed to certain qualitative factors.
