Abstract

The empirical literature concerned with macrosocial determinants of health has emerged from so many disciplines, each with its favored methodological approach, that a meeting of contributors evokes the Tower of Babel construction site. Contributors concerned with how, if at all, macrosocial shocks to the population affect the incidence of illness appear to have a particularly difficult time communicating across disciplinary boundaries. © 2007 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
